You can move your project between the iOS Captions app and the Web application, allowing you to share videos from your mobile for advanced editing, or access projects on your phone to edit on the go. Here is a tutorial on how to go about it.
Things to keep in mind
You will have to be logged in with the same email address on both the web and the mobile Captions app. If you are logged in with a different email on either of them, you won't be able to access the projects.
Only exported web projects can be viewed in the mobile Captions app. If your project is still a Draft on the web platform, it won't be accessible in the Captions app.
Moving projects from mobile to web
When you create a project in the mobile Captions app, those projects are only accessible through the mobile app. The projects on the mobile app have to be moved into a folder or space that is accessible through the web platform. The Team Space is a space where you can move the project. Here is how you do that:
Open the mobile Captions App
In the app, find the project you want to access on the web app
Hold down your finger on the thumbnail of the project until it is highlighted
Tap on the Move button at the bottom of the screen
Select the Space or Folder to which you want to move the project to, then tap Save.
Open the web platform and look into the Space/Folder to which you moved the project. If you already had the page open in your browser, please refresh the page.
After this, you will be able to open projects on the web platform.
Accessing web projects from mobile
All web platform projects that are in Spaces/Folders that are not restricted are accessible through the mobile Captions app. Here is how to access them:
Open your mobile Captions app
Tap on the Folder icon at the bottom of the screen
Scroll down to the bottom of the page
The Spaces are available from there. From here, navigate to the project you wish to access.
Editing mobile projects on web
After you have moved a project(that was created in the mobile app) space or folder that is accessible on the web platform, you have the option to edit it in our web editor. However, there are some limitations:
If you edit the project in the web editor, you will no longer be able to edit the project in the mobile app. You can still view and share it after exporting on web.
All elements, images, and emojis will be hardcoded into the video, and you won't be able to edit, move, or delete them from the video or project.
The style of the subtitles won't be transferred into the web editor.
Only the subtitle text will be editable in the web editor.
Before you edit the project in the web editor, you will get a warning that you won't be able to edit the project on mobile after you start editing in the web editor. Please double-check before you proceed, as this action is not reversible.
Editing web projects on mobile
Editing web projects on mobile is not supported. Only a few actions are available in this use case:
Rename project
Delete project
Export - this will also save the video to your Camera Roll
After Export, you can Share the video with others.
FAQ
Q: How can I move a project back to mobile after I accidentally moved it to a Space/Folder?
Once a project has been moved to a Space or a Folder on the web platform, you cannot move it back to be only available in the mobile Captions app.
Q: How can I see which projects were created on the mobile app?
When you move a project from the mobile app to be accessible in the web app too, the project will be marked with a Mobile tag on the thumbnail, so you can find it more easily. This tag will disappear once you start editing the project in the web editor.
